New York-based Casana, a remote patient monitoring device developer, has received FDA approval for Heart Seat, a smart toilet seat designed to measure vital signs.
The Heart Seat is capable of measuring heart rate and oxygen saturation (SpO2). In addition, Casana has partnered with researchers to conduct validation studies for further clinical measurements, with plans to file for future indications such as systolic and diastolic blood pressure this year. Casana aims to launch the Heart Seat in the market by the end of 2023, offering a passive approach to capturing health parameters and tracking health trends without requiring any behavior change.
