Fermify, an Austrian biotech startup, has raised USD 5 million in a seed funding round led by Dörte Hirschberg, with participation from Bettine Schmitz, Nina Wöss, and Clima Now, among others.
The funds will be deployed toward the optimization of its bioprocess and full digitalization, as well as the expansion of the team.
Fermify, founded in 2021, is claimed to be one of the first companies to produce vegan casein and plans to provide full service and its automated B2B platform for other alternative cheese and functional ingredient producers. The company’s automated production system utilizes an IP-protected bioprocess, which could potentially deliver a 50% reduction in costs while generating fewer GHG emissions compared to traditional cheese production.
