Bramble Energy, a UK-based hydrogen fuel-cell startup, has partnered with Equipmake, a control system developer, Aeristech, a consultancy firm, and the University of Bath to develop an integrated hydrogen fuel-cell bus technology.
The UK-based consortium, Hydrogen Electric Integrated Drivetrain Initiative (HEIDI), spearheaded by Bramble Energy, has secured GBP 6.3 million (USD 7.9 million) from the Advanced Propulsion Centre as part of the Automotive Transformation Fund. This funding was supplemented by industry contributions to a total of GBP 12.7 million (USD 16.0 million).
The consortium will utilize Bramble’s printed circuit board fuel-cell (PCBFC) technology, alongside Equipmake’s motor power electronics and battery management system, integrated with Aeristech’s high-efficiency air compressor, to develop hydrogen-powered double-decker bus’s powertrain. The collaboration will further receive R&D support from the University of Bath to conduct vehicle simulations.
