Ultraleap launches second-gen hand-tracking cameras at USD 139

Product updates

  • Ultraleap launches its second generation of hand tracking cameras, the Leap Motion Controller 2, which will retail at USD 139 and is expected to ship in the summer of 2023.

  • The Leap Motion Controller 2 improves camera resolution, widens the field of view, and reduces power consumption by 25% compared to its predecessor. The expanded platform support allows content creators to leverage hand-tracking capabilities while enabling VTuber presenters to embody avatars and enhance interaction with applications and games. Ultraleap has sold over one million Leap Motion trackers to date, with 350,000 developers building apps and experiences using the company's hand-tracking technology.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Ultraleap’s first leap motion controller was launched in 2013 , retailing at USD 80 and compatible with Windows PCs, Macs, and XR devices. In comparison, the Leap Motion Controller 2 is compatible with multiple platforms and complementary devices such as VR/MR/AR headsets, PCs, and holographic displays. Additionally, the company raised USD 82 million in a Series D funding round in November 2021 to expand its hand-tracking and mid-air haptic tech in the XR space and beyond.
