AR military tech firm Red 6 has raised USD 70 million in a Series B financing round led by RedBird Capital Partners, with participation from Alpha Edison, Boeing's AEI Horizon X Fund, and Lockheed Ventures, among others.
The funding aims to advance Red 6's proprietary technology for its Advanced Tactical Augmented Reality System (ATARS), which offers a synthetic training environment to enhance cognitive skills and address the pilot shortages in the US and allied militaries.
Red 6 specializes in synthetic air combat training and augmented reality (AR) applications for the entertainment industry. Its Advanced Tactical Augmented Reality System (ATARS) is a multi-node, all-domain AR system that provides a complete outdoor synthetic training environment for multiple users. This technology allows pilots to experience realistic, scalable simulated training while flying airplanes in dynamic outdoor environments.
Analyst QuickTake: The large funding round likely reflects success in the company completing its first AR training mission undertaken in June 2022 , which allowed multiple pilots to communicate simultaneously in AR. Previously, in February 2022 , Red 6 was awarded a contract from Tactical Funding Increase (TACFI)—an implementation of the US Air Force SBIR/STTR Supplemental Funding Pilot Program, showcasing confidence in its solutions.
