Mercedes-Benz has partnered with Microsoft, an investor in OpenAI (the creator of ChatGPT), to test in-car ChatGPT AI on 900,000+ vehicles in the US. As a result, Mercedes reportedly becomes the first automaker to use ChatGPT in vehicles.
The company intends to use the technology for its infotainment system to enhance the capabilities of audio requests through its “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant. ChatGPT is expected to improve natural language understanding and expand the topics the system can respond to.
Initially, Mercedes will commence an optional three-month beta program for US customers for the service. The companies will consider further integration of the technology depending on the success of the beta program.
Analyst QuickTake: The automotive industry is also among many to have witnessed an increasing discourse surrounding the possibilities of incorporating ChatGPT. Though Mercedes was the first automaker to actually do so, General Motors is also currently exploring the possibilities of integrating the technology—as announced earlier this year.
