Automaker Nissan is reportedly working on a new advanced collision-avoidance system that can automatically detect and brake for vehicles approaching from the sides at intersections. The company intends to complete the development of the technology by the mid-2020s.
Nissan has partnered with LiDAR maker Luminar Technologies to obtain the necessary LiDAR sensors for the system, which will be used to track the position, velocity, and potential collision risk of objects approaching from the sides.
The company is also working with developer Applied Intuition, which offers simulation environments to test and fine-tune prototypes prior to testing with physical models in controlled environments.
Specific details regarding the initial deployment of this system in its vehicle lineup have not been disclosed.
