BNB Chain, the layer-1 blockchain network developed by Binance, has launched the testnet version of its layer-2 scaling solution, opBNB. The testnet is currently in public beta and users can connect to it by downloading the opBNB wallet.
opBNB is designed to address network congestion and high fees on the BNB Chain. It is expected to achieve a throughput of 4,000 transactions per second (TPS) at a cost of 0.005 cents per transaction. In comparison, the BNB Chain currently averages around 1,500 TPS and costs approximately USD 0.05 per transaction.
Optimism's OP stack, which acts as a layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum, is used to build opBNB. The testnet is the first significant implementation of Optimism on a non-Ethereum network, and its success could pave the door for Optimism to be adopted by other blockchain networks.
