California-based eVTOL developer Joby Aviation has been granted a Special Airworthiness Certificate by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the first aircraft built at its Pilot Production Line in Marina, enabling the company to conduct flight testing of its first production prototype without passengers.
According to the company, the prototype aircraft holds the potential to become the first eVTOL aircraft to be delivered to a customer, with a target date set for 2024.
Edwards Air Force Base has been designated as its destination, where Joby Aviation will assume responsibility for its operations. This will be executed as part of the Company's Agility Prime contract, valued at up to USD 131 million.
