EverQuote, an online marketplace for auto, home, renters, life, health, and commercial insurance, has announced that it will be exiting the health insurance vertical, effective June 20, 2023. This includes its marketplace and the direct-to-consumer agency that offers Medicare and Under 65 health insurance, which accounted for nearly 10% of FY2022 revenues.
It was stated that the main reasons behind this decision were the significant capital investment required to scale the business and the increasingly unpredictable regulatory environment. EverQuote plans to provide further details on the impact of this decision during its Q2 2023 earnings call, scheduled for August 7, 2023.
Moreover, the company is also streamlining its overall operations and plans to reduce non-marketing operating expenses by over 15% while implementing a workforce reduction plan.
