Expedia Group has terminated its supply relationship with Hopper, accusing the latter of exploiting consumer anxiety and confusing customers, leading them to purchase services they neither need nor fully understand. Hopper, on the other hand, has refuted these claims, stating that Expedia Group views Hopper as a significant competitive threat.
The termination of the relationship means that Expedia Group will no longer distribute its hotel and vacation rental inventory via Hopper channels. Despite this, Hopper maintains that there will be no impact on its business as it has a multi-sourced strategy for its inventory, with Expedia being one participant among many within Hopper’s marketplace. Hopper also stated that it has moved substantially to direct inventory to ensure the best price and selection for its customers.
