ASKA, a company developing an electric drive and fly eVTOL vehicle, reported that its ASKA A5 prototype has progressed with its Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-type certification process. The company was awarded the certificate of authorization (COA) and special airworthiness certification by the FAA.
The Special Airworthiness Certificate validates that the ASKA A5 prototype has successfully met all the FAA safety requirements. Meanwhile, the type certification shows that the design is in compliance with required airworthiness, noise, fuel venting, and exhaust emissions standards. The company already began successful ground testing in 2022 and, as of Q1 2023, has begun conducting on-street driving tests.
Currently, ASKA has completed the initial phase of the type certification process and is progressing toward G-1 status, which is a key milestone in the FAA cross-validation process as it establishes airworthiness and environmental requirements necessary to achieve FAA-type certification validation.
