John Deere expands precision spraying solutions with Smart Apply acquisition

M&A

  • John Deere, a leading provider of farming equipment, has acquired Smart Apply, an Indiana-based company offering precision spraying systems, for an undisclosed amount.

  • As of date, Smart Apply is mainly sold through John Deere dealers in the US, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, and England. Following the acquisition, John Deere will expand Smart Apply’s availability to most of its dealer network in North America and Australia, with plans to explore new markets.

  • Growers will also have the option to share their Smart Apply data with John Deere Operations Center farm management software, enabling them to access additional insights and expert support.

  • Analyst QuickTake: John Deere has been working with Smart Apply since 2020, focusing on distributing precision spraying solutions. In July 2021, Smart Apply also added RDO Equipment, an Australia-based dealer partner for John Deere equipment, to its own dealer network. As part of its expansion in the agricultural autonomy space, John Deere had previously acquired Blue River Technologies (September 2017), Bear Flag Robotics (August 2021), and Light (May 2022).
