Nikola Motor Company (Nikola), a developer of heavy-duty battery-electric (BEV) and fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) trucks, has entered a strategic partnership with BayoTech, a hydrogen production, transportation, and storage solutions provider, to enhance the availability of hydrogen for zero-emission commercial FCEV fleets.
As per the deal, Nikola will become the primary customer for BayoTech's low-carbon hydrogen, starting with deliveries in Missouri this year and California in 2024. It also plans to acquire up to 10 BayoTech's “HyFill” bulk hydrogen transport trailers to distribute the hydrogen to refueling stations.
BayoTech will also purchase up to 50 Nikola Class 8 FCEV trucks over the next five years and use them alongside their HyFill transport trailers to deliver low-carbon hydrogen to customers from BayoTech's hydrogen production hubs.
The collaboration aims to accelerate the growth of the hydrogen ecosystem by providing reliable access to hydrogen and promoting the adoption of zero-emission trucks.
