Loft Dynamics, a company specializing in VR flight simulation devices, has entered a partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The company's simulators, which are the first VR flight simulators with regulatory approval in Europe, are now undergoing evaluation by the FAA in the US.
The FAA has selected Loft Dynamics' Airbus H125 and Robinson R22 simulators to explore the use of VR flight simulation technology for pilot training. These simulators, installed at the FAA's innovation hub at William J. Hughes Technical Center, will be used to advance national aviation safety, efficiency, capacity, and environmental sustainability goals. The simulators feature a full-scale replica cockpit, a realistic flight model, a six-degrees-of-freedom motion platform, and adaptable software for customizable training scenarios. The compact size of the simulators, which are 10x smaller than traditional full-motion simulators, allows easier installation and use.
Analyst QuickTake: Loft Dynamics has been seeking to aggressively expand into the North American market. In June 2023 , Loft Dynamics announced its expansion into Canada and partnered with Blackcomb Helicopters LP. The partnership allowed Blackcomb Helicopters to leverage the company’s flight simulator to increase flight training capabilities and minimize safety risks and carbon emissions from in-flight training.
