May Mobility, a developer of autonomous shuttle services, is partnering with the City of Detroit Office of Mobility Innovation to launch the Detroit Automated Driving Systems (ADS) Shuttle program. The program aims to explore the potential of self-driving technology in assisting older adults (aged 65 and above) and people with disabilities with their transportation needs.
The Michigan Mobility Collaborative (MMC) is leading the pilot project, developing a self-driving shuttle service that can be scheduled in advance or requested on-demand through a mobile app, website, or call center.
The City Council has also approved a USD 2.4 million contract between May Mobility and the Office of Mobility Innovation for the self-driving shuttle service, which is expected to be operational by fall 2024 (September–November).
The project follows 18 months of R&D and is funded through 2026.
