Byju’s, an online educational platform, has reportedly acquired HashLearn, an online coaching platform that tutors students for competitive exams. The terms of the deal are yet unknown.
The acquisition, which has yet to be announced by Byju’s, was reportedly completed 2-3 months ago. HashLearn’s co-founders, Jayadev Gopalakrishnan and Gokul Janga, have joined as consultants for WhiteHat Jr., a platform offering online coding classes acquired by Byju’s.
For FY2020, HashLearn reported revenue of INR 2.4 million (approximately USD 33,000), a YoY decrease of 90%, and a loss of INR 35 million (around USD 480,000).
Founded in 2011 by Byju Raveendran and Divya Gokulnath, Bangalore-based Think and Learn is an EdTech and online tutoring firm doing business as Byju’s. It is also India’s second-most-valuable startup. Byju’s offers online video-based learning programs for K-12 students and domestic and overseas exams. In 2015, the company launched “Byju's: The Learning App,” offering learning programs for students in grades 6-12. In 2017, it launched the K5 app for grades 4-5, and in 2019, it launched its early learning program for grades 1-3. In April 2021, Byju’s announced plans to expand to the US, the UK, Brazil, Indonesia, and Mexico during the year. As of April 2021, Byju’s served more than 80 million users.
