Fieldwork Robotics, a Cambridge-based company specializing in berry harvesting robots, has secured GBP 1.5 million (~USD 1.9 million) in an ongoing fundraising led by Elbow Beach Capital, with participation from existing investors, including Frontier IP and a family office. The funding is being raised through a Seedrs campaign and aims to surpass GBP 2 million (~USD 2.5 million).
Upon closing, the company plans to use the funds to assist farms in addressing labor shortages, minimizing crop wastage, and tackling food inflation with its harvesting robot technology.
Founded in 2017, Fieldwork Robotics develops autonomous harvesting robots with four picking arms using 3D cameras, sensors, and machine learning. The company has developed the Vertical Harvester and Horizontal Harvesting robots for operations in both vertical farms and traditional fields. The company has worked with Bosch to develop its autonomous raspberry harvesting robot, called “Alpha.” Alpha has been harvesting crops on farms in Portugal and the fruits picked are currently being sold in UK supermarkets including M&S, Sainsbury's, and Waitrose.
