The UK's Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) is allocating GBP 18.5 million (USD 23.3 million) for 13 projects related to self-driving technology as part of a GBP 50 million (USD 62.9 million) government initiative to promote green technology and job creation.
Funded projects include self-driving tech developer Wayve’s AI-based autonomous driving tech development, Nissan's self-driving tech development efforts targeted at urban areas, and Zero Point Motion's automotive sensor technology for self-driving vehicle positioning.
The UK government aims for 40% of new car sales in 2035 to have self-driving capabilities, contributing to a GBP 41.7 billion (USD 52.5 billion) market and nearly 40,000 skilled jobs in connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technology.
