Princeton NuEnergy (PNE), a New Jersey-based startup that offers battery-recycling solutions, has been awarded a USD 4.4 million grant from the US Department of Energy (DOE) and the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) to advance Cathode-Active Materials (CAMs) manufacturing.
The grant comprises a USD 3.5 million federal cost share and USD 0.9 million recipient cost share. PNE will lead the project by partnering with Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory, and Princeton University.
The team expects to develop a warm plasma-assisted process for CAMs to reduce battery pack mass and volume with enhanced safety standards. It intends to achieve cost reductions and commercialize EVs.
The funding becomes the fourth grant awarded to PNE by DOE. In November 2022 , PNE received a USD 12 million grant for lithium-ion battery manufacturing.
