Greyparrot partners with Closed Loop to integrate AI into MRFs

Partnerships

  • Greyparrot, a British provider of AI solutions to analyze waste flow at sorting and recovery facilities, has partnered with NextGen Consortium, an industry collaboration for food-packaging recycling, and Closed Loop Partners, an investment firm, to study polypropylene (PP) recycling streams using AI technology. Greyparrot's waste analytics platform will be installed at material recovery facilities (MRFs) in Texas, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Minnesota.

  • The technology would track and categorize objects in the PP stream based on material, format, and brand to distinguish food-grade and non-food-grade material. These units will send real-time data to an analytics dashboard.

  • The partnership aims to identify opportunities for waste recovery and separation into distinct value chains. In addition, the consortium expects to study PP cup recovery to derive higher value from existing recycling systems.
