HyProMag, a British rare earth magnet-recycling company, has partnered with European Metal Recycling (EMR), the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, Magnomatics, and the University of Birmingham to recycle rare Earth magnets from wind turbines.
The Re-RE Wind project is estimated to cost GBP 1.5 million (~USD 1.9 million), of which an Innovate UK grant will fund 67%. HyProMag’s part in the project is estimated to cost GBP 350,000 (~USD 436,238), of which the grant will fund 70%.
The project will leverage HyProMag’s HPMS (Hydrogen Processing of Magnet Scrap) technology to operate a low-carbon decommissioning program and create a new domestic source of rare earths in the UK.
Founded in 2018, HyProMag recycles rare Earth magnetic materials using its HPMS technology to extract and demagnetize NdFeB (neodymium iron boron) alloy powders. In August 2023, the company was fully acquired by Maginito Limited, a 90% owned subsidiary of Mkango Resources Ltd.
