Pyrowave, a Canadian technology company, in partnership with Michelin, a tire manufacturing company, and Knauf Industries, a packaging manufacturer, announce the first finished products from 100% plastic waste recycled using Pyrowave technology.
Michelin has used Pyrowave’s recycled styrene to produce a four-ton prototype batch of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) for tires. It has passed quality assessments against products made from fossil-originated styrene.
Knauf Industries has also used Pyrowave technology to produce expanded polystyrene (EPS) for packaging. The finished products were evaluated in laboratory tests and through migration tests for use in food contact applications.
The partnerships expect to demonstrate the feasibility of closed-loop polystyrene technology and scale up operations for Pyrowave.
