HaptX, a provider of touch feedback technology, has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Consolidated Nuclear Security (CNS), which operates US nuclear weapons-related facilities, to advance VR tech for US government training missions.
As part of the agreement, Y-12 will integrate HaptX Gloves to enhance immersion in VR training sessions. HaptX engineers will also work with Y-12 staff to improve virtual training environments and application features.
The first joint Y-12 HaptX prototype is a virtual glovebox simulator designed for training in high-hazard scenarios. The glovebox units allow trainees to handle hazardous materials safely. The HaptX Gloves DK2 Development Kit has been utilized to replicate realistic touch, and the new multi-user haptics feature in the HaptX Software Development Kit lets multiple users interact in the same virtual space.
Analyst QuickTake: HaptX has been expanding use cases of its gloves via partnerships, having collaborated with Lowe’s in July 2023 to prototype realistic touch simulation for retail customers. This was further supplemented by the launch of X-Lab in November 2022 , an R&D facility for the company’s haptic innovations.
