EverestLabs, a California-based startup offering AI-based waste monitoring software, has leased its waste-sorting robot to a Californian material recovery facility (MRF) owned by Caglia Environmental, a waste-recycling company, for two years. EverestLabs' robot is stated to capture around one million used beverage cans (UBCs) annually.
The Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) is financially supporting the lease of the robot for Caglia. Via the support, CMI aims to increase the capture rate to 32,000 lbs of used beverage cans (UBCs) per year. Cagilia has installed the robot in the “last chance line” to capture UBCs mistakenly sorted for landfill. After installation, the facility reports recovering ~1,400 UBCs per day for a circular supply chain.
In addition, EverestLabs will provide RecycleOS, its AI-driven automation platform for MRFs, to construct daily reports on missorted UBCs with their economic values and GHG savings.
