OpenAI has reintroduced the ability for ChatGPT to browse the web and provide answers from current sources, referred to as Browse with Bing.
This allows ChatGPT to retrieve information from the web and cite sources in its responses.
This feature is available to Plus and Enterprise subscription users initially, with plans to extend it to all users soon.
Analyst QuickTake: Previously, OpenAI had briefly introduced web browsing capabilities within ChatGPT, but had to pull it back after users found ways to access paywalled content by feeding specific URLs to the chatbot. To prevent misuse, OpenAI's automated web crawler, which feeds data to ChatGPT, now identifies itself with a user agent. Websites can use their Robots.txt files to exclude this crawler from their content. This feature aligns with the broader trend of AI models integrating real-time web results, making them more valuable for research, fact verification, and information retrieval.
