Li-Cycle and Glencore partnership for European battery-recycling hub delayed

Partnerships

  • In May 2023 , Li-Cycle, a Canadian lithium-ion battery producer and recycler, and Glencore International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of metals and mining firm Glencore, announced plans to develop a recycling hub in Sardinia for EV batteries. However, the project has been delayed after Sardinia's regional government rejected a fast-track approval process.

  • The partnership reiterated its commitment to regulatory requirements for the demonstration facility but stated that it would consider alternative options for a European battery materials processing facility if the government decision causes delays in the project.
