Carbios, a France-based company developing technology to recycle polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics and polyester fibers, has started its textile preparation line at its demonstration plant in Clermont-Ferrand. It is a process that transforms textile waste into raw material suitable for depolymerization with Carbios' enzymatic biorecycling process.
The company expects to achieve a processing capacity of 300 kg of textiles per hour through the automated process. Carbios has also applied for a patent for the textile preparation line to scale the process. The new textile preparation line is expected to streamline the textile recycling process and support the validation of Carbios’ technology at a demonstration plant scale by 2024.
