OMV, an Austrian integrated oil and gas company, has signed a collaboration agreement with Wood, a UK-based energy services company, to gain a commercial license for OMV's ReOil technology, which converts plastic waste into pyrolysis oil. The partnership expects to advance chemical-based plastic recycling as a circular economy solution for end-of-life plastics.
Through the partnership, ReOil technology is supplemented with Wood's proprietary heater technology to develop recycling facilities. The companies expect to provide an engineering delivery team with the combined technologies to support their customers.
The partnership between OMV and Wood began with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in November 2022. In the future, OMV intends to collaborate with Wood to develop an industrial-scale plant with adequate capacity to recycle 200,000 tons of plastic waste per year.
