Altilium and Lunaz secure grant to decarbonize EV battery recycling

Funding

  • Altilium (formerly Altilium Metals) , a London-based CleanTech startup, has partnered with Lunaz, a UK-based upcycling and vehicle electrification company, to reduce carbon emissions in EV battery recycling. The partners have received financial support from the Automotive Transformation Fund (ATF), a funding program for green transportation in the UK.

  • Through the partnership, Lunaz will design an upcycled electric Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) to transport end-of-life EV batteries. The HGV will be powered by the residual electrical energy from the batteries to reduce the carbon footprint of transportation. At Altilium’s recycling hubs, the used EV batteries will be discharged and recycled.

  • The partnership intends to transport 200,000 EV batteries annually. The project will be executed at Lunaz’s upcycling campus in Silverstone, with a capacity of upcycling 1,110 industrial vehicles to zero emissions powertrains.
