General Motors' (GM's) autonomous car subsidiary, Cruise, has announced improvements to its self-driving technology aimed at enhancing the interaction between its robotaxis and first responders.
The improvements include enabling the cars to respond more effectively to emergency situations by slowing down when sirens are detected, identifying emergency scenes better, and avoiding double-parked emergency vehicles.
Cruise has also allowed first responders to manually move their autonomous vehicles during emergencies, addressing a request made by many first responders in San Francisco.
