Waymo, the self-driving tech development unit of Google's parent company, Alphabet, is implementing LED screens on its autonomous Jaguar I-Pace vehicles to improve communication with other road users.
The LED screens will display symbols such as rectangles indicating pedestrian right-of-way and the symbol of a pedestrian crossing, complementing Waymo's existing visual and auditory signals.
Waymo aims to inform pedestrians that the vehicle is yielding and inform drivers that the vehicle has stopped for pedestrian safety while avoiding an authoritative perception.
