Peloton has agreed to recall its two treadmill models, “Tread+” and “Tread,” and to also stop selling and distributing both models in the US. The news follows the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) April warning that Peloton’s Tread+ treadmill caused numerous injuries and one fatal accident involving a child.
The recall includes 125,000 Tread+ devices and 1,050 Tread devices in the US and an additional 5,400 in Canada. Consumers are eligible for a full refund until November 2022 and a partial refund thereafter.
The company intends to work closely with the CPSC to increase safety awareness for Peloton members and continue to work on additional hardware modifications.
