Waymo, the self-driving tech development unit of Google's parent company, has introduced a new simulator named Waymax for autonomous vehicle (AV) researchers. The simulator is designed to train intelligent agents for autonomous AV systems, focusing on realistic interactions among agents like pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic signals.
Waymax is unique in its lightweight design, reliance on real-world data, hardware acceleration, and support for multi-agent analysis, enabling efficient experimentation and rapid iterations for researchers in the field.
Waymo plans to use Waymax in its 2023 "Simulated Agents" challenge to assess industry progress and capabilities.
