Xreal launches Air 2 and Air 2 Pro AR glasses

Product updates

  • Xreal announced its latest AR glasses, the Air 2 and Air 2 Pro, priced at USD 399 and USD 449, respectively. The products are already available in China and Japan, with pre-orders open for a November release in multiple regions, including the US, UK, Germany, France, and Italy.

  • The glasses are meant to serve as an external monitor, and can be connected to phones, computers, and gaming consoles to project images displayed on them. The Air 2 and Air 2 Pro glasses feature MicroOLED displays, offering a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution, 500 nits of brightness, an improved audio system, and are ~10% thinner than previous models. The Air 2 Pro additionally offers electrochromatic tinting for adjustable light control.

  • Analyst QuickTake: While the glasses provide a 100-nit increase in brightness compared to its predecessor, it is still a long way off from being usable outdoors (requiring ~10,000 nits in brightness to be optimal in sunny conditions). The limitation is due to battery capabilities, limits on heat generation (given the short distance of the display to the human eye), and scaling up FOV (increasing FOV reduces brightness).
