PolyCycle Innovation, a plastic recycling company, has introduced a novel resin called PolyCycle, made from recycled plastics to be used in food and beverage closures. The company's post-consumer resin (PCR) received verification from the GreenCircle - certified organization confirming that it contains 100% post-consumer recycled plastics.
After this, PolyCyle partnered with Closure Systems International Inc. (CSI), a manufacturer of plastic and aluminum closure equipment, to commercialize caps and closures made by PolyCycle PCR. The partners have launched the first carbonated soft drink closure utilizing PCR resin.
The resin was the result of PolyCycle’s proprietary technology that eliminates residual contaminants from PCR materials. The company aims to provide this PCR as an alternative to virgin resins with the same performance. It will also enable CSI customers to comply with packaging requirements legislation and extended producer responsibility (EPR) requirements.
Founded in 2021, PolyCycle Innovation produces high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) in an FDA-approved manufacturing process. It utilizes a pyrolysis technology called “The Grispin Process” to recycle plastic waste into resin and PolyCrude, a synthetic crude oil that is refined for new monomer production.
