Tyson Foods, a global food company, has made a two-fold investment in Protix, a Netherlands-based insect ingredients company, to support the growth of the insect ingredient industry and create more sustainable proteins and lipids for the global food system.
With its investment, Tyson Foods has acquired a minority stake in Protix and entered a joint venture to build and operate an insect ingredient facility in the US that upcycles food manufacturing byproducts into insect proteins and lipids for use in pet food, aquaculture, and livestock industries.
Moreover, the collaboration expects to leverage Tyson Foods’ global scale and expertise and Protix’s technology to scale the production of insect ingredients.
