Sunfire, a German electrolyzer developer, has received a EUR 169 million (~USD 184.7 million) grant to establish industrial series production of its electrolysis technologies. The funding comes as part of the Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) initiative and will support the scaling up of Sunfire's green hydrogen production.
Sunfire will use the funding to invest in production in Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, aiming to validate its technologies. The grant includes EUR 162 million for setting up production in Saxony and EUR 7 million for North Rhine-Westphalia. The company is the only German producer in the industry that has received IPCEI support.
