Fluid Reality announced its lightweight, untethered haptic VR glove priced at ~USD 1,000. The gloves are designed to improve user immersion, without the need to be connected to bulky backpacks or multiple tubes.
The haptic VR glove features 160 dynamic haptic feedback actuators, operates on a low power of 10 mW/pixel, and has a battery life of around three hours. The glove is also significantly lighter than some of its competitors, weighing 0.5 pounds (~207 grams).
Fluid Reality is a startup spun out of the Future Interfaces Group at Carnegie Mellon University. Its wearable glove uses low-profile, self-contained motion-generating actuators that clip onto a user’s fingertips, without the use of tubing or wiring connected to an external device. Moving forward, the company hopes to increase the density of haptic arrays on each finger pad while miniaturizing their drive electronics.
Analyst QuickTake: Fluid Reality differentiates itself from other startups providing VR haptic gloves at an affordable price point in relation to competitors. In comparison, Haptx ’s G1 gloves are priced at USD 4,500, while SenseGlove ’s Nova 2 gloves are priced at USD 5,999.
