Qualcomm to launch new XR chip for high-end headsets in early 2024

Industry news

  • Qualcomm is set to launch a new XR chip in early 2024, which could power a headset developed by Samsung and LG.

  • The new XR chip is expected to significantly enhance the performance of high-end MR headsets, providing more than double the GPU performance of its predecessor, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1. The chip is likely to be based on either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or the more powerful Snapdragon X, designed for laptops.

  • The chip aims to compete with Apple’s M-series chips and could be a critical component for companies like Samsung, LG, and Meta in developing their own MR headsets to compete with Apple's Vision Pro.
