Beta Technologies delivers first manned electric aircraft to US Department of Defense

Product updates

  • Beta Technologies, a US-based company developing eVTOL aircraft for urban air mobility, has deployed its ALIA aircraft to Eglin Air Force Base in Florida to begin a contracted deployment period with the US Air Force.

  • This was the first time Beta delivered an aircraft to a contracted partner, and it was also the Air Force’s first receipt of a manned electric aircraft.

  • The aircraft will remain at the base for a period of experimentation and training. Furthermore, the Air Force will validate vital use cases including critical resupply, cargo delivery, and personnel transport.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Similarly, in September 2023 , Joby Aviation delivered its first aircraft to the US Air Force's Emerging Technologies Integrated Test Force in California. The company is potentially providing up to nine aircraft to the government under a contract valued at USD 131 million.
