The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced an investment of USD 7 billion to create seven Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs (H2Hubs) nationwide, as part of President Joe Biden's Investing in America agenda. The H2Hubs are designed to enhance the deployment of low-cost, clean hydrogen, which will ultimately contribute to meeting the US' climate and energy security goals.
Funded by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the seven H2Hubs aim to form a national clean hydrogen network, promoting its production, storage, and delivery. These H2Hubs are expected to reduce annual emissions equivalent to those of 5.5 million gasoline-powered vehicles and to collectively produce three million metric tons of hydrogen annually, reaching nearly one-third of the US 2030 production target.
The clean hydrogen can be produced from various domestic clean energy sources including renewables, nuclear, and fossil resources with carbon capture, contributing to a diverse US energy landscape.
