Redwood Materials, a recycling and EV battery producer, announced its first energy storage system recycling project: dismantling and recycling a 4MWh stationary storage substation in Kauai, Hawaii as part of a large-scale solar panel installation.
The substation includes eight battery containers with a combined weight of 44,544 kg and is composed of a lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxide mix. Redwood will be responsible for the entire recycling process across dismantling, transportation, and recycling at its northern Nevada facility.
