Bühler partners with Divaks to build yellow mealworm plant

Partnerships

  • Bühler, a Switzerland-based food equipment manufacturer, has partnered with Divaks, a Lithuanian insect-based protein producer, to build Divaks' first commercial-scale yellow mealworm plant. Divaks intends to produce protein from yellow mealworms for various applications, including meat alternatives, sports nutrition, snacks, confectionery, and premium pet food.

  • As part of this partnership, Bühler will serve as the plant's technology provider, responsible for feedstock preparation and a fully automated larvae growth system. It will also provide a processing line to transform the harvested larvae into textured insect proteins (TIP), insect protein concentrates (IPC), and other specialized food ingredients.

  • The 10,000 sq m plant, scheduled to go into operation in 2025, would produce up to 15,000 tons of insect-derived food products annually.
