GitLab Inc., a company known for its DevSecOps platform, has updated the GitLab Duo, a suite of AI capabilities, with the introduction of GitLab Duo Chat as a beta feature in its November product release (GitLab 16.6). It also announced the general availability of GitLab Duo Code Suggestions in the December product release (GitLab 16.7).
GitLab Duo includes 14 AI features, such as Suggested Reviewers, Code Suggestions, Chat, Vulnerability Summary, and more. GitLab Duo Chat, a feature enriched with AI to understand natural language, provides instantaneous feedback, analysis, and methods to rectify issues related to coding, security, CI/CD pipeline, and more. GitLab Duo Code Suggestions, on the contrary, assists various teams in creating new and updating existing code to enhance efficiency and speed.
GitLab claims that the updated GitLab Duo suite will impact productivity positively by reducing toolchain sprawl and optimizing the software development lifecycle. It is also said to protect proprietary data while maintaining privacy and transparency, thereby reducing security and compliance risks related to AI adoption.
