South Korean infrastructure developer SK Ecoplant Co., has formulated four battery-recycling technologies partnering with the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources.
These processes increase the solvent extraction speed for used batteries to separate and recover nickel and cobalt, as well as fully discharging batteries rapidly ahead of disassembly. The processes offer a 97% recovery rate for nickel and cobalt with 99.9% purity, making them suitable for reuse in battery manufacturing.
Additionally, SK Ecoplant has partnered with Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul to develop technology that halves the amount of water used in the metal recovery process by improving the performance of the solvent extraction.
