Mastercard partners with NEC for in-store biometric payment solutions

Partnerships

  • Mastercard has partnered with NEC, a technology solutions provider, to implement facial recognition technology for in-store checkouts.

  • The alliance aims to merge NEC's face recognition tech with Mastercard's payment systems for the checkout process.

  • Analyst QuickTake: In addition to facilitating biometric payment cards usage by approving solutions of leading players (such as Zwipe and IDEX ), Mastercard has also ventured into the biometric payment terminal market. In May 2022, the company launched a pilot program for retailers to offer facial recognition and fingerprint scanning-based payments. At the time, Mastercard noted that it was working with several tech providers, including NEC, PopID, Payface, Aurus, PaybyFace, and Fujitsu, to develop these technologies.
