Varjo launched the enterprise-focused XR-4 Series mixed reality headset, priced at USD 3,990. The product series (consisting of the XR-4, XR-4 Focal Edition, and XR-4 Secure Edition) comes with Varjo Controllers, which provide inside-out tracking, powered by Razer.
The XR-4 Focal Edition claims to be the first headset that allows gaze-directed autofocus mixed reality pass-through features, which mimic the behavior of the human eye. The XR-4 Secure Edition is tailored to government customers, adhering to higher security standards.
Other notable features available across the series include the use of dual 4K x 4K displays providing a resolution of 51 pixels per degree, a 120° x 105° field of view, 20 Mpx cameras with LiDAR resolution, and 3D spatial audio. The headset is optimized for NVIDIA RTX Ada generation GPUs and integrated into NVIDIA Omniverse, facilitating photorealistic rendering and ray-tracing in mixed reality.
Analyst QuickTake: The XR-4 Focal Edition seeks to solve the vergence accommodation conflict (VAC), which results in an improper focus on mixed reality objects, given that object depth is improperly simulated. The headset also comes at half the price of its predecessor, the XR-3, which is likely to cater to cost-sensitive firms at a time when the US economy is slowing down.
