Mistral AI, an open-source developer of foundation models, is reportedly finalizing a funding round of about EUR 450 million (~USD 487 million) from investors, including NVIDIA Corp. and Salesforce Inc., which would value the OpenAI rival at approximately USD 2 billion.
The funding includes over EUR 325 million (~USD 352 million) in equity led by Andreessen Horowitz, with talks of a EUR 200 million (~USD 217 million) investment from them. Additionally, NVIDIA and Salesforce plan to contribute EUR 120 million (~USD 130 million) in convertible debt, although some details might still be subject to change.
As part of the deal, Mistral's three co-founders are set to sell equity worth more than EUR 1 million (~USD 1.1 million) each, and three other insiders, including Cedric O, the former French minister acting as the company's chief adviser, plan to sell substantial shares.
