Liquid AI, an MIT startup co-founded by Daniela Rus, has raised USD 37.6 million in a two-stage seed funding round. This funding round involved multiple investors, including OSS Capital, PagsGroup, Automattic (WordPress' parent company), Samsung Next, Bold Capital Partners, ISAI Cap Venture, and angel investors such as Tom Preston Werner, Tobias Lütke, and Bob Young. This values Liquid AI at USD 303 million.
The funds will be used to develop "liquid foundation models" that will directly rival companies producing GPTs (GenAI models). The company aims to have a 20-strong workforce by early next year.
Liquid AI utilizes an AI model known as a liquid neural network to build general-purpose AI systems. Compared to conventional GenAI models, liquid neural networks are smaller, require less computing power, and can adapt dynamically to changes. With successful trials in autonomous navigation and predictive capabilities in varying datasets, Liquid AI's focus is on the commercialization of its technology.
